But this approach often results in trite Christologies that merely use Jesus as a means to an end or a vehicle for self-improvement. But we also live in hope and anticipation of the not yet future. Jesus has not yet returned or descended from heaven with a shout (1 Thess 4:16). Suffering, evil, death and decay are still all around. As Paul expresses it, “While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh” (2 Cor 5:4).
